Poetry Competition

Well done to all the Room 13 children today for presenting their chosen poem to our class.  They all did a great job - working on the feedback they had been given and sharing with such confidence!  Thank you to the parents who came to watch and support our children.

Here are our class finalists!  They will join the other Year 3 and 4 children this THURSDAY in the Middle Team finals!  We are so proud of you all!

Class Poetry Competition

The children have been practising their poem in class, recording and watching their performance on the iPad and evaluating their performance, looking for ways to improve upon it. Now that the children have become familiar with their poem, quite a few of their goals are to slow down a little bit, add more expression and not rush it!

Families are welcome to join us for the competition in Room 13 on Monday (1st Sept.) at 1:30.

Poetry

This week our Literacy focus is on poetry. Today the children had a go at writing some rhyming couplets.

I Have a Cute Pussycat

I have a cute pussy cat,
She is a cat I like to pat.

But then oh dear! My cat got a fright,
Because something fell from a great height!
I barely had time to think,
Before she took off faster than I could blink,

I started to chase her all over the place.
I ended up running at quite a pace!
When I’d chased her all over the house,
I realised she was trying to catch a mouse!

Ferrymead

Room 13 had a fantastic day out at Ferrymead, stepping back 100 years in time.
Check out our Blog later in the week to find out what happened when we visited the general store, school, bakery and carried out some housework for the policeman's wife.

Russian Architecture Art

We have produced these wonderful pieces of art in class.  They are based around Russian Architecture.  We looked at different buildings - their shapes, sizes, patterns and then drew our own, using vivid for effect.  The backgrounds were created using chalk pastels.  Once we cut them out, they were glued onto the background.  The look awesome!

Ferrymead Trip - Monday 18th August

This Monday Rooms 13 and 19 are going on our trip to Ferrymead. Please can the children arrive at school by 8:45, so that we can leave promptly at 9:00. The children will need to come to school in St Albans School uniform, along with a warm winter jacket - waterproof if your child has one and suitable footwear for walking. We will still be going to Ferrymead if it is wet, as the activities are predominately inside. Your child will also need their school bag with their packed lunch and a water bottle.

Poetry Competition

Make sure that you have chosen a poem for the middle syndicate poetry competition in week 7, so that you can start learning it to recite from memory. If you like Kenn Nesbitt's poems their is a link to his website on the right-hand side of the page.

Red And Black Day!

We all enjoyed supporting the mighty CRUSADERS a few weeks ago!  It was a huge shame they didn't win - but we are still LOYAL fans!  Best of luck for next year!
