Willie Wonka's Amazing New Chocololate Bar!

In class we had to devise a new imaginary chocolate bar for Mr Willie Wonka. First we looked at the Cadbury website along with wrappers from different chocolate bars before coming up with our own ideas. We then had to plan our chocolate bar, write a set of instructions and draw the design with labels detailing key aspects.

The winner of the class competition was Eve.

Caramel Coated Supreme

Goal:
How to make a bar of supreme chocolate.

Materials:
·      50g of cocoa butter
·      cocoa solids (50g if you want dark chocolate, 30g if you want milk chocolate)
·      milk
·      sugar
·      popping candy
·      melted caramel
·      super fast mixer
·      bowl
·      moulds

Steps:
1.    Pour the melted caramel over the popping candy, then let it set in the fridge.
2.   Whilst the popping candy is setting pour the cocoa butter in with the milk in to the bowl.
3.   After the popping candy has stayed in the fridge for 15 minutes take it out.
4.   Pour the sugar in with the butter and the milk, then with the mixer start the beating on high speed like 14 or 16 for 10 minutes.
5.   Add your cocoa solids, start mixing thoroughly on 3 for 3 minutes.
6.   Tip in the popping candy.
7.   Mould the chocolate in any type of mould, but make sure it’s clean.
8.   Wrap the chocolate in a wrapper.
9.   Enjoy eating a ‘scrumdidely’ creamy chocolate!

Aboriginal Art

This term we have been working on producing a piece of Aboriginal Art.  A technique is used where dots are repeated on a page to highlight the outline or make a pattern or shape.
We worked on the shape of our snakes first, (this was much harder than we thought!) Then we painted a background.  We used colours that represented the warmth of Australia - reds, browns and yellows.  Finally, we painted in the snake and used cotton buds to dot in our outlines and patterns.

Mrs Brown is very thrilled with the outcomes.  Here are a few - but do come in and see the rest in our class!

Summer walk......

With raincoats on and even some in umbrellas, we made our way to Malvern Park.  It was meant to be our Summer Walk but it wasn't that different than our Winter Walk!  What is going on mother nature!

We did manage to see some new developments in the environment on our walk plus one new surprise at the park! We hope the walk provides us with great motivation for our writing tomorrow!

The sky looked very grey!  We knew we had a small amount of time to explore!

The trees were far more lush with green leaves.

The hedges all showed new growth from the spring sun.

Blossom was growing on the trees.

Mohit managed to find some leaves blown off by the strong winds.

Johnny found some interesting leaves on the ground.

Eve found these baby chestnuts, blown off by the wind.

Ashley, Eve and Charlie taking some time to relax.

Charlie took this photo of Eve and Mrs Brown

Then we spotted this beauty!  One of the giraffes in the 'stand tall' competition.

And evidence of the continued work in Christchurch!
What a fun walk by all!

Summer Walk

We plan to do our Summer Walk to Malvern park today!  Bring a jacket and maybe some gumboots as the grass will still be wet!

Halloween Poetry

This week we have been writing some different types of poems about witches and wizards. The children have selected their favourite poem to publish and create a class book.
Here are a selection of some of their poems below.

Simile Poems
The Wicked Witch

Skin as bumpy as a garden caterpillar,
Teeth as black as stones in soil,
Nose as long and pointy as a red rose bush,
Hair as brittle as uncooked pasta, Breath that is like rotten flesh.

By Benny

            Wicked Witch

Skin as brown as a bruise,

Teeth as tough as an elephants tucks,

Nose as long as a drink bottle,

Hair as rough as tree branches!

          By Ameelea

Wicked Witch

Skin as green as acid,

Eyes like red hot pokers,

Mouth as red mammal’s blood,

Nose like a long bumpy capsicum.

WITCH SHOPPING LIST

ONE windy Wednesday to blow away the wizard,
TWO terrible treks to eat the wizard,
THREE thankless thieves to rob the wizard,
FOUR ferocious football players to kick the ball at the wizard,
FIVE  fussy flame figures to melt the wizard,
Six  sneaky  snakes to poison the wizard,
SEVEN sand sacks to drop on the wizard,
Eight great alligators to bite the wizard,
NINE pinecones to throw at the wizard.
TEN tiny tarantulas to scare the wizard.
                          BY SVEN
 Witch's Shopping List
One wonky walking watch walking towards the wizard,
Two terrific teachers teaching in Room 13,
Three thumping thumbs to stomp on the wizard,
Four ferocious fat fish to fight the wizard,
Five fancy flamingos to flap away the wizard,
Six silly seals swimming sweetly to shore,
Seven skating snakes to slither on the wizard,
Eight annoying engines to annoy the wizard,
Nine nagging nappies to make the wizard faint,
Ten terrifying t-rexs to taunt the wizard.

Humour

Inside the Wizard's Pocket

Twenty-two flying elephants,
A really fat alien,
The Simpsons on their brown couch,
Freezing cold lava.
                                                          By Tarin
A silver-grey green eyed cat,
A plush hippo - the wizard's bedtime toy,
A powerful magic amulet,
A wand, every wizard has one!

Folk Dancing

During the second half of the term our focus during fitness was folk dancing. Below is a clip of the first dance that we learned called 'Follow the Leader'.
