Sven's Trio

Sven and his brothers love Lego and Trio!  They spend a lot of time making amazing creations at home.  Sven brought this Trio creation in that he had made at home - clever you Sven!

Mohit

Mohit is learning to speak English. This week in class he read a book about making a rabbit, so he decided to follow the instructions and make his own rabbit at home.

Aquagym

We had a great first session at Aquagym today. Last week the children set their own goal for swimming and today they tried really hard to work towards achieving them.

Maths Homework - Week 3

Use the virtual dice link on the right hand side to prastise your doubles and halves. E.g. if you roll a 6 you would say double 6 is 12, half of 6 is 3. If you already know your doubles with numbers up to 12 and halves of numbers up to 24 you could try putting a zero on the end of the number you roll. E.g. if you roll a 6 you would make it 60 and say double 60 is 120, half of 60 is 30.

Maths Homework    Term 1 week 3
Use the virtual dice link on the right hand side of our Blog's home page to prastise your doubles and halves. E.g. if you roll a 6 you would say double 6 is 12, half of 6 is 3. If you already know your doubles with numbers up to 12 and halves of numbers up to 24 you could try putting a zero on the end of the number you roll. Our focus in maths for the first few weeks of term 1 is statistics. We are learning how to create and display data in graphs and make statements about what the graph shows. This week we created a pictograph about how we came to school on the first three days of term 1.
After we had to describe what we could see and suggest a possible reason as to why it was like that. We tried to use words like: more, less, most, least, greater, fewer, same as.

Our UV BEADS Experiment!

On Wednesday Mr Yardley gave each class a packet of special beads.  We put them onto some string and put them on our wrists before going out to lunch.  Mrs Brown said to keep an eye on them over lunch and see what we noticed!

After lunch we talked about what had happened to our beads during the lunch break.  We all found that our bead changed colours during lunchtime!  Wow - were they magic?
Here are some of the reasons/observations as to why we thought they changed....

·      They are made for glowing outside – Sven
·      They change to blue when you were eating lunch – Eve
·      I was standing on the step and it turned purple – Tarin
·      By Room 14 mine changed colour – Ameelea and Ashley
·      Outside it was glowing but inside it wasn’t – Coco
·      I noticed when I went in the sun it changed colours – so I think it's something to do with the sun and the dark – Riley

Mrs Brown talked to us about how they were UV Beads which change colour when they have exposure to the sun.  UV rays or ultra violet rays, are present all the time - even on a day like Wednesday when the sun was not shining in the sky!  It made us realise that even though the sun is not bright and it is a cloudy day - it is still very important to have protection from the sun by wearing a hat and sunblock.

We are going to wear them over the next few days in lots of different places and see what we observe!

Can you see our beads have changed colours now that we are outside?
