Ruby's Kittens

Ruby brought her very gorgeous kittens into school for us to meet today!  There were five in total.  They came inside their cage, making lots of noises because they were very frightened and out of sorts!  We kept very calm and quiet so that they wouldn't get too much of a fright in a new environment.  Ruby told us they were five weeks old and still being fed by their mummy - who has the morning off being mum, resting by herself!  Mrs Brown got to cuddle the cute black kitten and as tempted as she was - this kitten cannot come home to her house as she has an 18 year old cat who would not be impressed with someone coming into her territory!  Thanks for bringing them in Ruby - we are sure they are a lot of fun to have!

Middle Team Choir

We have begun our Middle Team Choir sessions with the very talented Ms Emeleus, on a Friday.  Here are some photos of our first session.  We have to warm our voices up so that we can hit the right notes! We have also learnt about the importance of the way we sit - nice and straight with one foot in front of the other, and to make the right shape with our mouths when we sing - a long oval shape.  We look forward to a performance later in the year.

Warming up our voices!

Looking at the song sheets

Here's a wee glimpse of our singing in action!

Harper's visit to Arrowtown

Harper visited Arrowtown a few weeks ago and had a lot of fun panning for GOLD!  She managed to find some to bring into school to show us!  She also found some Fools' Gold too!  Do you know what Fools' Gold is?  See if you can find out and let us know!

Oh the places you'll go.......

Last week we had a fantastic time drawing some well known Dr Seuss Characters - the Cat in the Hat and Thing 1 and Thing 2!  We enjoyed using the water paints to complete our drawings.  You can see that we have thought carefully about 'proportion' - making sure that things are the right size that they should be!  Come into the classroom and see our work - here are some of the first ones that were finished!  Read the quotes ... Dr Seuss had a lot of really interesting sayings that make you think!

TRYathlon

The Year 3 TRYathlon has been cancelled for this term. We will look to have another go at it in term 4.

Who am I?

In class we have created a 'Who am I?' book. We had to describe some of our physical features, as well as include some information about our personality. You have to read the description and try to guess which member of Room 13 it is and then you can lift the flap to see if you are correct.

Rain, rain go away...

Today with the non-stop rain and the flooding of the school playground we decided to use our senses and write a poem about the rain.

Here are a few of our poems:

Rain

I see the gloomy rain zooming sideways in the hard wind, as we watch out of the window.
I hear the wet cold rain going pitter-patter, when I am trying to drift off to sleep.
I smell the damp wetness surrounding me.
I feel the cold, soggy wet rain.
I wonder if the rain will ever stop!

By Ruby

I see St Albans playground flooded more than ever before!
I hear the rain going pitter-patter.
I smell the soggy grass.
I wonder where the rain is coming from?

By Benny

I see the wind blowing the misty rain around – it might flood!
I hear the rain going pitter-patter into the already formed puddles.
I smell the misty, damp cooling air of the rain.
I feel the cold touch of the rain’s icy finger.

By Riley

I see the rain pushing the rain to the left side of Christchurch.
I hear rain pitter-pattering on my roof.
I smell very wet grass, very wet leaves and very wet flowers.
I feel soggy wet rain dripping down my nose.
I wonder if the rain will ever stop!
