Buddy Class

Today we met with our buddy class to share some of our learning from this term.
Room 13 shared the iMovies we created based on our Inquiry. We showed how an object has changed through time and also what it might be like in the future.

We also played our board game based on a fairytale, linking to what we had been doing in literacy this term.

Moving Images

Today in class we had a go at creating a different version of a thaumatrope using 2 pieces of card with a skewer stuck between them. When you twisted the stick quickly the two images appeared as one!

Our Pom-Pom Creatures!

Thank you for helping your child with their pom-poms at home!  Today we made some very cool pom-pom creations!  Who would have thought that there could be so many things you can do with a pom-pom!  Thank you to Vicky (Bailey's Mum) for coming in and helping us out!  You're a STAR!

Pom-poms!

Have you finished your pom-pom at home!  It would be very helpful if you can cut this at home and bring to school ready to make some pom-pom creatures!  We will do this on WEDNESDAY!

Thaumatrope

The thaumatrope was a popular toy in the 1800s. It is a disk with a picture on each side, attached to two pieces of string. If you hold and twist the strings between your fingers and then pull them to let go, the disk will spin and the two pictures will appear as one moving image!

To make a thaumatrpe you will need:
String
Scissors
Piece of card
Hole punch
A circular item to draw around e.g. a cup
Coloured pencils or felt tip

First draw around a circular object and then cut out the circle.

Punch two holes on either side of the circle.

Next draw a cage on one side and then flip the circle over and draw a bird on the other side. When you flip the circle over make sure that the cage is upside down on the back. Colour your bird in. You could also try it with a bowl on one side and a fish on the other or come up with your own idea to try.

After tie a piece of string through each hole.
Finally twist the strings and then pull them so that the circle spins. What do you see?

Cricket Coaching

Room 13 had a cricket session taken by some coaches from Canterbury cricket. The children will be bringing home some information about cricket in Christchurch, which may be of interest if they would like to  play the sport or during the upcoming summer season.
